I know how to live on almost nothing or with everything. I have learned the secret of living in every situation, whether it is with a full stomach or empty, with plenty or little. For I can do everything through [Jesus], who gives me strength. Philippians 4:12-13

How often do we long for a life that’s different than the one we have?

We all experience restlessness at times—discontent with where we are or how far we’ve come. Maybe you imagined yourself further along in a career or settled down with a family by now. Sometimes, it’s just wishing for more money in your bank account! One woman spent a summer celebrating three different friends’ weddings while her own life felt quiet. She’s not alone. Many of us are asking ourselves, “Where’s my love story, my scholarship or the child I want so badly?” We’re waiting on dreams and miracles that seem slow to arrive.

Here is a comforting truth: God meets us where we are, in every feeling, and every unfolding set of circumstances. The life you yearn for begins when you encounter Jesus in your current reality. The restlessness you feel invites you to root yourself deeper in the One who hears, answers and truly satisfies. That One is Jesus.

We can experience the reality that the writer of the Bible book of Philippians experienced when he said:  “I know how to live on almost nothing or with everything. I have learned the secret of living in every situation, whether it is with a full stomach or empty, with plenty or little. For I can do everything through [Jesus], who gives me strength” (Philippians 4:12-13).

You are not alone in your aches of longing or disappointment. But no job, education or human relationship will bring forever satisfaction.  Relationship with Jesus is the secret to walking through all of it. He says, “I am the way, the truth and the life.” He wants to answer your longing with forever fulfilment and joy through peace with God (John 14:7).
