Don’t be misled—you cannot mock the justice of God. You will always harvest what you plant. Galatians 6:7

Where is God’s justice when bad people get away with terrible injustices?

Many songs in the Bible, also known as Psalms, open with the musician expressing anger over evil people thriving. It may be corrupt officials ascending to power, dishonest people getting richer, or unfaithful partners seemingly finding happiness while leaving others in turmoil. We’ve all seen injustice go unpunished. It can be very discouraging. Especially when those trying to follow God with integrity are struggling to survive. In these moments, we all might feel like shouting, “God, do you see this? Do you even care?”

But in these moments, what we can see is only an incomplete snapshot of a story that’s still unfolding. God stands outside of time and He sees the full picture. He knows everything– even the secret thoughts and desires of hearts (Psalm 44:21)! We can trust Him to give to each person accordingly. The Bible book of Galatians declares to us, “Don’t be misled—you cannot mock the justice of God. You will always harvest what you plant” (Galatians 6:7).

From the incomplete picture we see right now, we can’t assume that we know everything about others or about how God judges. Here are His words: “… never take revenge. Leave that to the righteous anger of God. For the Scriptures say, “I will take revenge; I will pay them back,” says the LORD” (Romans 12:19).

We would carry out justice without God’s knowledge and without His ways, which the Bible says, are higher than ours (Isaiah 55:8-9). This is also a reminder to us to evaluate what we are sowing. What habits am I cultivating? What will the harvest of my life be?
