From the Heart of Harold Sala

Recently World magazine featured several major Christian organizations whose founders spend ministry money to support excessive life-styles including multiple million-dollar residences, large salaries, private jets and unlimited expense accounts—a marked contrast to the thousands of ordinary people who write checks with the intent of using the money to “spread the Gospel.”

One thing the groups targeted by the article have in common is the flat-out refusal to be accountable to anyone—“What we do with the money is between us and God!” The article also told of the work of businessman and philanthropist Rusty Leonard, who established a service ministry known as “Wall Watchers” (www.wallwatchers.com), whose purpose is to evaluate how Christian ministries spend the money they raise for Christian ministry—holding them accountable for Christian stewardship. Additionally, the Evangelical Council for Financial Accountability (ECFA) headed by Kenneth Behr, has served as the watchdog of ministries with strict oversight of what is spent, demanding that groups who belong adhere to standard account practices and comply with full and open reporting.

Any group who fails to do less than this falls short of Paul’s admonition to “provide things honest in the sight of all men” (Romans 12:17). NIV translates the word “honest” as “doing what is right.”

September marks our 44 th anniversary of ongoing ministry, and from the beginning we have sought to make every dollar count for the cause of Christ. Our objective is to use gifts strategically in the world where they are most needed.

Our focus is on using the media to proclaim the Good News, touching lives around the world through radio, the printed page, and more recently the Internet.

It has been our policy from day one to be completely transparent. Our books are open to anyone who wants to see how funds are used for the cause of Christ, and we welcome inquiry.

When you support a project sponsored by Guidelines, nothing is taken from your gift to support Guidelines U.S.A.

As we begin our 45 th year we thank God for each of you who faithfully includes Guidelines in your regular giving. May God multiply the outreach and show Himself strong on your behalf!
